Inner strength

Updated: Nov 16, 2022

There is a saying that “adversity builds character” but I would rephrase that to “adversity changes your character.” When my daughter was born with developmental delays, I was devastated and didn’t know what her or my life would be like. It has been a long road to helping her become a young woman, but through these challenges I have found inner strength and she has changed my character for the better. Oftentimes life events have profound consequences and how we manage these shapes who we are. I have had to learn to be an advocate for her, something I was never comfortable with, but in learning this skill, it has impacted how I am able to advocate for causes at work or in the community. One of the compliments I received from a teacher was how regardless of being knocked down, I still get up. Resilience. You are always going to have obstacles but how you deal with them can either flatten you or it can teach you how to overcome them and become stronger. Keep trying to solve the problem and don’t give up after the first hurdle you come to.
